Sunset Clouds Over the Atlantic Ocean

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

I took this photo on Cocoa Beach in October. It was a warm and humid evening. A heavy rain had fallen an hour earlier. Several large thunderstorms loomed out over the Atlantic Ocean.

Even though the sun sets over the Gulf of Mexico, on the other side of the state, the orange light from the sunset has brilliantly illuminated the cirrus cloud anvil in the eastern sky in a display that lasted for nearly an hour. You can see the nearly full moon at the top center of theĀ  photo.

There are quiet, peaceful, and beautiful moments in life that we never forget. This evening will be one of those moments for me.

Beach Place Guesthouses of Cocoa Beach

Monday, November 10th, 2008

In October we spent several days in Cocoa Beach for the 13th Annual International Seabean Symposium. While there, we stayed at a wonderful place right on the beach, called the Beach Place Guesthouses. Sue and I fell in love with this little beach getaway while reclining in a hammock overlooking the Atlantic after sunset, watching the moon rise out of the ocean. It looked just like a sunrise during the first few minutes above the horizon. I’ve published a slide show of the Beach Place Guesthouses on my new page about where to stay on Cocoa Beach. You’ll definitely want to check it out.

Closest Beach to Orlando

Photo of the crowd near the Cocoa Beach Pier.

[ I took this photo while standing on the Cocoa Beach Pier looking north south. ]

I get lots of questions like this: “We are going to be in Orlando for a week to take the family to Disney World. We would also like to take a day and drive to the beach. What is the closest beach to the Orlando / Disney area that would be suitable for a family?”

So I decided to put up a page on my BeachHunter.net website to give you some ideas about what the most suitable nearby beaches are. I suggest the best and closest beaches, how to get to them, where to park, how long the drive is, and why I like them. I also have a fun idea for the more adventurous among you!

Visit Beachhunter.net to see my suggestions on the best Florida beaches close to Orlando and Disney World.
