I’m David McRee, aka BeachHunter. I am a professional beach bum. I travel around Florida visiting all the beaches, with a special focus on the southwest coast beaches from the Tampa Bay Area south to Marco Island.
I explore, discover, photograph, shoot video, and write about my beach and island experiences on this blog and on my main beach website BeachHunter.net.
I was born in Bradenton, Florida. I have never lived anywhere else but Florida. I have no plans to leave.
My main website is www.beachhunter.net
I served as the “beach expert” on the VISITFLORIDA.com website from May 2007 to July 2009. Florida paid me to go to the beach (no kidding).
Yes, it is a lot of fun! Here’s proof.

Just discovered your blog. Thanks for the info. We will definately be using your beach info as a guide for exploring the coast in the Tampa Bay area.
Thanks for mentioning some of my favorite places and things about Florida. Keep up the excellent work!
Hey thanks everyone, for stopping by and leaving a comment! Love your work Rhonda, so I did what I usually do when I like something beachy–I blog about it!

Went to Anna Maria yesterday … I love it out there!
I’m a Florida East-Coaster but am heading your way next weekend. I’ll be reading through your blogs for good tips.
Dear BeachHunter,
I love the wavewall on Ft. Lauderdale beach and am wondering who designed it and how the colored light tube along the wall works (it slowly changes from blue to green to magenta and back).
Thanks!
Chris
The designer was the late Edward Stone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Durell_Stone,_Jr.

Thanks for the kind words, I am thrilled to be the Concierge on the Island. Yes businesses belong to my orgaanization, however I always ask guests for feedback so I can be sure our services are consistently top notch. One of the services I offer my business owners is the value of a professional report on customer experiences. Good, bad or ugly!
We keep it real and really work hard to support our business owners.

Great site! I am in Ocean Shores, Washington on the east side of a the penninsula. One of the few places on the west coast with a sunrise view over the water. I wake up with the sun over Gray’s Harbor and Mount Rainier and at work the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean. Never spent any time in Florida but appreciate your style. Moved to the beach seven years ago and wouldn’t leave it for the world!
Thanks for the nice comments Betty. There’s nothing like a sunrise over the water!
What a lucky guy you are indeed! With your experience can you please tell me which beaches I should visit if I want to find fossilized shark teeth?
Linda, generally, the Venice area beaches, especially Caspersen Beach are good for fossilized shark teeth. Also, Blind Pass Beach on Manasota Key. Any of the Englewood area beaches are good.
Sometimes you find something so good, like your website, that you want to share it with everyone. When my website is cleaned up and organized (when I figure out what I’m doing) I’d like to put a link to beachhunter.net. I used to live in Kissimmi and my wife and I moved back to Texas where I grew up. Your website is my window to the place where we belong. One day we’ll be in a position to move back there, but in the mean time…keep putting up the awesome pictures.
