I’m all geared up for a summer of some serious beach research. I’ve got a new writing project in the works and needed a dependable car and a kayak to get to the beaches on certain islands. So I’m ready to roll with my new Toyota and my new Ocean Kayak.
This morning I took “Number 88” out to Shell Key for her maiden voyage. She’s an Ocean Kayak Trident 13. I put a lot of research into the purchase and tried out a lot of kayaks before deciding on this model.

No, that's not a banana on the beach. It's my new kayak, affectionately dubbed "Number 88," on Shell Key. She's a seaworthy ride.
One might wonder why I named the kayak “Number 88.”
Remember that TV show back in 1977 / 78 called The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams? Of course you do. One of the characters was an old mountain man called Mad Jack, who went through quite a few pack mules during his life. He gave them consecutive numbers. “Number Seven” is what he called the mule on the show.
When I bought my kayak at Osprey Bay Outdoors it was standing upright with a big inventory tag on it with the number “88.” That’s it.
I’m looking forward to lots of fine days on Florida beaches and islands. Of course I”ll be taking lots of photos which will be posted right here on BlogTheBeach.com.
