Photos: Anna Maria Island June Sunset with Storm Clouds

Sunday evening I was in Bradenton and decided to take a drive out to the beach and go for a walk. While out on the beach, an ominous storm front approached from the southeast.

Breezy afternoon on Anna Maria Beach

It was a breezy evening and just enough surf that I was seriously thinking about walking back to the Beach Scout to grab my boogie board.

After a week of onshore wind and surf, there was a fair amount of turtle grass washing up on the beach. It was full of mostly broken shells.

But, my eye kept returning to the advancing storm front. A quick check of the radar image on my iphone told me that there wasn’t really any rain in this cloud. It wasn’t as serious as it looked. Still, I knew it would make for a dramatic sunset.

Once out over the Gulf of Mexico, the clouds let some rain fall, but the beach remained dry and there was no lighting.

People didn’t let the storm clouds scare them off the beach.

The sun peeked under the clouds for a few minutes before disappearing into thick haze on the horizon. Another perfect ending to another perfect beach day.
