Today we stopped by Madeira Beach to check out the stand-up paddleboard (SUP) race organized by Brody Welte, owner of Stand Up Fitness and the Kahuna Kai Paddle and Beach Shop on Madeira Beach. I shot some photos (above) and video (below). I haven’t tried stand up paddling yet but it is on my short list of things to try this summer. Looks like sort of a cross between kayaking and surfing. Although SUP is new to this area, the ancient Hawaiians used stand up paddle boards (heavy wooden ones).
