The ancient Hawaiians surfed on wooden surfboards. Even early California and Florida surfers used heavy wooden boards until fiberglass was invented.
Now we see all kinds of “advanced” surfboard design taking shape with fiberglass, foam, and plastic.
But some surfboard makers are going back to have a closer look at what can be achieved with wood. Many of us have always thought that early surfboards must have been crude and unwieldy, that may not have been the case at all, as you can see from the surfing in this video.
If you like surfing; if you like people who take their art seriously and are not afraid to be different, then you may enjoy this video. Alaia Surfboards. What a cool thing!
