Treasure Island and Sunset Beach are not known for their preservation of nature, but here’s a hopeful sign: freshly planted sea oats with protective signage. Young sea oats are easily trampled by beach crowds, so let’s hope these thrive.

A typical Treasure Island Beach: wide, flat, and raked daily by the mechanical beach rake pulled by a tractor.
I went for a bike ride on Treasure Island beach around sunset today. I started out at Sunset Beach and rode up to the Bilmar and back. The tide was up a bit so I only had a narrow strip beach that was firm enough to ride on. Can’t ride a bike in the white fluffy sand pictured in the above photo.
