A few weeks ago I answered some questions for a newspaper writer regarding the paper nautilus. Since the article appeared, I’ve received several photos from folks who have been fortunate enough to find one. A few weeks ago I wrote a blog post about the paper nautilus featuring one of the finds.
I was just contacted by Betty Stone, whose fiance, Rick Santomauros, found the above specimen on the beach at low tide just north of the Beach Street ramp at Ponce Inlet (on the Ponce side of the inlet). Lucky Rick found it on January 10, 2013 and was kind enough to share the photo.
This reinforces my feeling that the paper nautilus is found more often than is realized. Most people just don’t realize what they’ve found.
