This Summer
by Jenifer Mina
This summer
under a flossed sky,
at the edge
of beloved ocean,
watching energy
flick shells forward
waiting for fall
to mount our
behemoth organ-ship.
Golden wind
in pipe-sails
waiting for our
choir captain
to take us a-winding
on silver stipples
of music.
Now in the sea,
IN the sea
synchronized swimming,
Director sends us
shimmering life-lines
of corded notes.
Floating with
glittering chunks of
glass sound,
imagine that?
Imagine THAT.
Exalt, Glorify, Magnify
Thank you God
for the craft
and caring
that put us here.
Amen, and together we say:
AMEN.

Jenifer writes that this poem was inspired by the sea and a church organ.
She writes:
My prayer is about art. Creativity is a Gift that celebrates and uplifts the human spirit. Art begins with drawing – on paper or in the mind – a drawing in or out of the spirit. The word “draw” comes from Old Norse dragen, e.g. drag, “to translate into a different form”.
The process results in marks on a paper. Marks that can be translated into music, poetry or the movement of dance.
This seems a miracle to me. As music is given sound by the hands of the musician, words come to life through poetry. Poetry is the art that gives language a song. We thank God for the ability to give invisible spirit a content and form.
