At Home in Holmes Beach, FL

Friday evening we drove out to Anna Maria Island and parked in Holmes Beach on 46th Street.  When I come here I always feel like I’m coming home since I spent so much time here as a youth. The beach was quiet and the water was calm as a lake, though not as clear as it has been. The water temps have started to come down a bit, so it’s no longer like bath water. Still plenty warm though. My guess is about 86 degrees F.

This entire video was shot and edited on my iphone. Then I downloaded it to my computer before uploading to YouTube.

And I shot this panoramic collage with the iphone also. The individual images are matched up and stitched together by an app called Autostitch:

This panoramic image is centered at about 46th Street in Holmes Beach, FL. The process of putting the images together makes it look like the island curves toward me, but that is just an illusion. Click the image to see it larger.

After sunset we were starving so we drove down to Bradenton Beach to the Sun House Restaurant. I really wanted Sue to enjoy the food at Sun House. Unfortunately they were closed for vacation until September 23rd. So we headed down to one of our other favorites: Mr. Bones BBQ back in Holmes Beach.

Many of the dishes at Mr. Bones have a distinctly Indian flair, which we love. It’s casual, with  a bizarre decor that makes me feel a bit like I’m in a Haitian voodoo enclave. Maybe it’s the masks hanging on the wall and the coffin full of ice and beer. Or maybe it’s just me…

You'll never feel alone at Mr. Bones BBQ.

The menu has quite a few selections, from chicken dishes to ribs to hamburgers--but no fish.

We each ordered Chicken Tikka with Rice Biryani. It's half a chicken, cut up and seasoned with 12 Indian spices, along side a pile of equally well-seasoned rice with raisins, almond slivers, and topped with shredded dry coconut. Seasonings on the side are mango chutney and a spicy green coriander chutney. To top is off is a cold mix of cut up cucumbers in yogurt and a basket of hot garlic bread. Yummy!
