Model of Gulf water currents and their effects on the BP Gulf Oil Spill. Click on the image to visit Roffer's Ocean Fishing Forecasting Service for the latest image and analysis.
This model by Roffer’s Ocean Fishing Forecasting Service, in cooperation with the University of South Florida gives an excellent picture of the position and extent of the oil spill and its movement relative to the nearby Gulf of Mexico water currents. Based on current analysis, it appears likely that at some point at least a portion of the oil will get picked up by the Gulf Loop Current.
The ROFFS website also has an animated image of the oil spill movement and links to some very informative press releases they’ve put out.
