Registration is now open for the 16th Annual Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival coming up January 23 – 28, 2013.

The most sought-after classes fill up fast, so if you’re interested, get on it!

Once again, the evening Keynotes look outstanding:

  • Greg Miller of “The Big Year” movie tells his story.
  • Joanne Williams, photogapher extraordinaire, speaks about “The Business of Wildlife & Nature Photography: the glamor, the fame, the fortune – the truth!
  • Mark & Selena Kiser present “Rediscovering Florida.” Mark & Selena have been working with the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail since 2005. It was my pleasure to meet and bird with them during last year’s Festival.
  • Kevin T. “Shorebird” Karlson – A man who needs no introduction, will have a unique presentation on birding with images and music. That description is sorely lacking, but download the catalog and read about it to get the full scoop.

The Festival will have the usual overwhelming selection of field trips and classroom presentations, as well as raptor shows, an art show, lots of vendors and exhibitors, and more.

Here’s a photo I took a couple of years ago during a  festival field trip to  the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. We were identifying water birds.

If you’re interested in trying out the latest binoculars and spotting scopes, this is THE place to be. All the top vendors will be there to help educate you about their products and let you try them out and compare. Where else can you try out a pair of Leica binoculars, then walk 5 feet and try out a Kowa scope, then walk 5 more feet and try out a pair of Alpen binoculars and then a pair of Swarovski’s?

This year I’m not officially blogging for the Festival, but I may go over for a few days and take a few field trips if time and money allow it. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in birds and wildlife watching. There are some great things for kids to see and do as well.
