Photo: Snorkeling in the Dry Tortugas, Florida

Seventy miles from Key West. Water as clear as gin.

The structure you see in the photo is the seawall surrounding Fort Jefferson, which occupies the whole of Garden Key in Dry Tortugas National Park.

Why do they call it “Dry?” Because there is no water source other than rain water on these dry islands.

It takes about 2 hours via high speed ferry from Key West to arrive at the Dry Tortugas.
