Rainy, windy weather and increasing surf from Hurricane Irene on Hollywood Beach, FL.

I just spent some time last weekend on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk (pictured above). The weather was beautiful when I was there, but Hurricane Irene is bringing rain, strong winds and big surf to the beaches of Florida’s Atlantic coast. The image above is from the web cam at the Sugar Reef Tropical Grill, right on the broadwalk.

As the storm passes, you can monitor beach conditions by visiting any of the web cams on this page. Visit my BeachHunter web site for links to more Florida beach web cams.

DBsurf.org has a good surf report with pictures from Daytona Beach.

Gulfster is sure to be posting some great surfing pics from the east side of the state, and maybe even from the Gulf side if the NE winds kick up enough to give us some surf Friday and Saturday (though as of Thursday morning the Gulf is as calm as a swimming pool).

WARNING: Hurricane surf like Florida is experiencing now creates tremendous currents, including potentially deadly RIP CURRENTS. Do not go in the water unless you are an experienced surfer and are surfing with friends who can help if you get in trouble. Even then, be careful and use good judgement.

The beach at Bathtub Reef Park has taken a serious beating by hurricane surf in recent years and has struggled to recover, even with plenty of help. Here it is as Hurricane Irene approaches. Let's hope it holds its own this time around.
