In 1996 I started writing about beaches. In summer 2005 I started developing my main website about Florida Beaches, BeachHunter.net. Over the last 4 years BeachHunter has grown by leaps and bounds in the number of visitors that surf its pages each month, often exceeding 70,000 visitors in a single month.
I thought I’d take some time to show you some of what you will find on BeachHunter. Mostly, you’ll find hundreds of photos of all the beaches I’ve visited in Florida along with descriptions and my opinion of each island and beach. I started out by writing only about Gulf coast beaches, but I’ve been branching out a bit and now have a growing collection of Atlantic coast beaches as well. What else can you find on BeachHunter.net?
My beach safety ebook – free to download. At least 50,000 people have downloaded this book. Amazing. Lately I’ve been getting requests for printed copies of the book, so I may revise it and have some printed. Right now it’s a 70 page e-book in pdf file format. No passwords or special software needed. Just Adobe Reader or some similar pdf reader.
Florida Jellyfish information – it started out as just a few photos of jellyfish. Now it is one of the most popular parts of my website. Thousands of people visit my jellyfish pages each week trying to identify jellyfish they’ve encountered. I get lots of jellyfish photos emailed to me, and I put the best ones up on BeachHunter for everyone to see.
Other top pages on BeachHunter:
My list of Florida beach web cams and surf cams
Tips on keeping your beach vacation costs down
Great list of places for beach camping in Florida
Extensive descriptions and information about Siesta Key beaches
Photos of the different types of beach sand in Florida
Florida travel blogging – niche writing
I get a lot of email from people telling me that they find information on BeachHunter that they can’t find anywhere else. Sure, I occasionally get criticisms from people who think the site doesn’t have the best aesthetically pleasing design, like a “professional” website, but that speaks to its authenticity. It wasn’t planned out in advance in a business-like way. It was just cobbled together one piece at a time by a guy who loves beaches.
I’m trying to improve the design and organization a bit here and there, but for the most part, it serves its purpose well.
