I was invited to speak at the St. Pete Beach Public Library today. I presented a short talk about my Florida Gulf beaches book and about Florida beaches in general. Library Administrator Roberta Whipple had a huge wide-screen TV set up to show the videos I did for VISIT FLORIDA. It worked out really well.

Lucy Beebe Tobias, who served as “Authentic Florida” expert for VISIT FLORIDA, also spoke about her excellent book “50 Great Walks in Florida.” 50 Great Walks has an incredible variety of walks of all lengths that will appeal to nearly everyone. It isn’t a book about hiking. Many of the walks are on paved paths or streets through historical districts and botanical gardens that bring you in touch with authentic Florida (as opposed to Mickey Mouse).
Lucy’s book will inspire you to get out and see Florida without roughing it. As she said in her talk, her walks are designed to be completed by noon, “in time for lunch.” And she even suggests the best places for lunch. What more do you need?
