Not long ago I was down in Bradenton, and after my business was finished I headed over to Basil’s to grab some take-out BBQ ribs for a beach picnic. I arrived at Coquina Beach on Anna Maria Island just before sunset. To enjoy the yummy ribs I had to endure the discomfort of a concrete picnic table and fend off sneak-attacks from numerous gray squirrels that were eager to put their paws on my dinner.
It was worth it, and after dinner I stood up and snapped the above photo of the fireball rapidly descending toward the horizon. It looked like a low cloud bank would obscure the sunset, but no, the sun remained visible all the way to the water. What a nice evening it was. Nothing like an impromptu sunset picnic by oneself.
