In the middle of a cold, gray winter it’s nice to remember that summer is not that far away. Here are a few photos from my trip to the Dry Tortugas near the Florida Keys last spring. The air was hot, but the water was still cool enough to be refreshing. Dry Tortugas beaches are pure white coral sand, not quartz crystals like the rest of Florida’s beaches. If you want to get away from it all for the day, make the trip to the Dry Tortugas aboard the fast catamaran, Yankee Freedom II, which makes the 70 mile trip over open water in about two-and-a-half hours.
