I love photographing this house at the end of Oak Avenue on Anna Maria Island. It is the quintessential beach house. Wouldn't you love to own it?

I’ve gone through my 2009 photos and picked out some of my favorites to share. They are favorites because they evoke wonderful memories, not because of any photographic excellence. Any photos that qualify as technically good are the result of pure dumb luck on my part.

Fort Lauderdale Beach. Puffy clouds, a lone palm, and a row of tidy blue umbrellas on the golden sand beach.

We spent three days in Fort Lauderdale beach to research an article I was working on for VISITFLORIDA.com. We had a great time but didn’t get in as much beach time as I’d have liked. Good excuse to go back.

Key Largo sunset. Yes, it was as sweet as it looks. I could definitely live in the Keys.

I spent 5 days visiting all the major beaches in the Florida Keys, and even took a fast catamaran to the Dry Tortugas to shoot a promotional video for VISITFLORIDA.com. I pretty much ate fish at every meal but breakfast while I was down there. The fish is so fresh in the Keys I couldn’t resist.

Sombrero Beach in Marathon is generally underrated by most travel articles and guides. This is a first class beach. One of the best in the Keys, and the water is actually deep enough to swim in.

Honestly, I have so many awesom photos of the beach and water in the Dry Tortugas I had trouble picking one out. This is the main beach on Garden Key (Fort Jefferson) and I spent a couple of hours snorkeling here in the crystal clear waters and white coral sands. Going back for sure.

Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge in Brevard County. Not a soul on the beach this morning.

In July I spent a couple of days in the Indialantic / Melbourne Beach area. I enjoyed staying at the Crowne Plaza Melbourne Beach while I explored the beaches in the area. Wildlife photographer Jim Angy was kind enough to help me get some great photos of birds, and I took a night “turtle walk” with the Sea Turtle Preservation Society. They have a lot more sea turtles over here than we have on the Gulf coast.

Tracks of a green sea turtle coming up out of the Atlantic Ocean to lay her eggs in the sand.

It's hard to get a great surfing photo, but I thought this photo of a surfer on Anna Maria Island during the passing of Hurricane Ida really came out well. Lots of energy.

Of course the highlight of the year was our beach wedding on Sanibel Island in October. The ten day honeymoon on Sanibel was pretty nice too.

I know you're probably thinking this is a great sunset photo, but it isn't. It's a sunrise over Fort Myers Beach, taken from Sanibel Island on the morning of our wedding, October 2nd.
