Every once in a while I meet someone who has energy, purpose and motivation, all focused on a particular path. Kevin Mims is one of those people. During the course of my blogging for VISITFLORIDA.com I met Kevin for the first time, face-to-face, at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park down on Key Largo. As soon as I felt his energy I knew he was destined to accomplish a great deal.
Kevin loves the outdoors and seems to spend all of his spare time under the sky and on the trail. He’s a great writer and is also handy with a camcorder, a still camera, a netbook and a GPS.
So if you enjoy the outdoors–camping, hiking, kayaking–keep your eye on Kevin. Follow his work. You’ll discover a lot of great things about Florida you’ve probably never heard about before. He’ll give you lots of great ideas and inspiration. Rumor has it he may be working on a book. I know I’ll be first in line to buy it.
Kevin shoots great HD video of his outdoors adventures and posts them on wahoohiker.com. You’ll definitely want to visit that site and watch his video clips. Look around and you might find a video of a wild Florida bear and a bobcat sharing the trail with Kevin.
Another project Kevin is working on is GearActive.com. Like most outdoors-persons, Kevin seems to be a bit of a gearhead. Since he tries out a lot of outdoor gear–backpacks, rain ponchos, dry-bags, cooking gear, etc–he’s created a website where he posts some very useful and entertaining reviews of various products and gives readers a heads-up on new gear coming out soon.
You can also follow Kevin Mims on Twitter to keep abreast of his outdoor activities.
Kevin also has a YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/wahoohiker
I’ll leave you with one of Kevin’s VISITFLORIDA videos. It’s a relaxing visit to the Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival. I know you’ll enjoy it:

Well, well! David, I can’t say how much I appreciate your nice words!
The rumor *may* be correct about the book, too – as I start to free up more time in 2010, hopefully I will be able to get to work on it.
Thanks again for the post, David – it really means a lot!
Definitely agree – Kevin’s a great one to follow and learn from.
